Who we are

Orienteers at heart

TrailBlaze started in February 2024. Callum had been orienteering long enough to know what the sport needed and couldn't easily get, so he stopped waiting for someone else to stock it.

That November, Grassy Knoll Outdoors passed the baton to us. We took on the range people already relied on, and got to work widening it.

Since then we've grown into trail running and adventure racing, we supply more than 15 clubs around the country, and we've sent about 2,000 orders out the door from Auckland and Christchurch.

We sell what we use

Every compass, control, and pair of shoes in our range has been out on one of our own courses. If we wouldn't take it out ourselves, it doesn't go in the shop.

We'd rather talk you out of a purchase than sell you the wrong thing. That's the advantage of being part of the community we sell to, and it's the only one worth having.

We run the events too

  • 22 events

Across six weeks of the Auckland Schools Sprint Series, the biggest job in our year.

  • 2,500 students

Race every week of that series, most of them still learning to navigate.

  • 15+ clubs

Around New Zealand rely on us for timing gear, controls, flags, and uniform.

  • About 40

Paid crew work our events across a season: course setters, controllers, starters, timekeepers, marshals, and first aiders.

The people behind it

  • Callum Wishart

Director. Buys the range, quotes clubs and schools, runs the custom uniform orders, and leads our events. He's the one answering emails at odd hours.

  • Neill McGowan

Operations Manager. Designs courses and manages entries. He was Event Director of the Auckland Triple Crown, three World Ranking Events.

  • Debbie McGowan

Sales Manager. Packs and ships your order, sorts out anything that goes wrong, manages custom uniform orders, and leads our online range.

Come and say hello

We sell at events all over the country, so there's a good chance you can pick our brains in person before you buy anything. If you can't get to one, the contact form reaches the same three people.
